Alfie came to We Are Footprint in early 2025, having finished college in July 2024 and spending several months looking for work. But despite his determination - applying through Indeed, attending job fairs, and working closely with the Jobcentre - he didn’t have much luck. The desire to contribute, earn a living, and build his future was there, but the opportunities weren’t materialising.

At home, Alfie was fortunate to have the support of his parents and a good network of friends but like many young adults ready to stand on their own two feet, he wanted more than anything to be self-sufficient and not have to rely on them. Without an income, he felt restricted in what he could do, and the frustration of being ready to work but unable to find a way in was challenging.

That changed in March 2025 when Alfie attended an employment programme we ran alongside Morgan Sindall. We all recognised his potential and drive and quickly placed him with Ameon, working on one of Morgan Sindal’s sites, where we felt he’d thrive. Since then, Alfie hasn’t looked back.

He’s found his place within a team that’s not only skilled but also supportive, friendly, and inclusive. From day one, co-workers have taken the time to show him the ropes, sharing knowledge, and encouraging him to grow. Alfie has embraced every opportunity to learn and is relishing the chance to develop new skills. He’s also formed strong bonds with those around him, making friends and finding the site a happy place to work.

The impact on his social life has been huge. With a regular income, Alfie now enjoys the freedom to go out with friends, go to the gym, or simply enjoy everyday life without the constant worry and stress about money. He recently took a family holiday to Cyprus, something that would have been out of reach a few months ago.

Looking ahead, Alfie knows he’s in the right place and is eager to keep learning and improving. His sights are set on securing an apprenticeship, upskilling, and gradually climbing the ladder within the construction industry.

Alfie’s story is a testament to the resilience of young people who, with the right opportunity and encouragement, can turn potential into progress. At We Are Footprint, we’re proud to have been part of his journey and look forward to supporting him as he continues to grow, both personally and professionally.
