Principal Accountabilities:

  • Daily Cashbook Maintenance – Posting and reconciling multiple bank accounts.
  • Purchase Ledger – Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices, maintaining accurate ledgers, and preparing weekly/monthly BACS payment runs.
  • CIS Administration – Verifying subcontractors and processing monthly CIS returns in line with HMRC requirements.
  • Sales Ledger – Raising customer invoices, applications for payment, and following up on outstanding debt (credit control).
  • Payroll – Preparing and executing monthly payroll runs.
  • Month-end support – Preparing journals, assisting with management accounts, and producing reports from the accounting system.
  • VAT and PAYE – Preparing and submitting returns in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ad hoc financial admin – Including liaising with site teams, suppliers, and consultants to resolve queries and support wider business operations.

Essential Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of day-to-day finance operations.
  • Accurate and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and managing a varied workload.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Good interpersonal skills – confident engaging with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Professional, confidential, and team-focused approach.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and improve systems and processes.

Desirable Experience:

  • 3+ years in an accounts role.
  • Previous experience in construction contracting or CIS administration is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with Sage or similar accounting packages preferred.

Package:

  • Salary: Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 FTE (pro rata based on hours agreed).
  • Working Pattern: Part-time – 2 days per week (days to be agreed, hours can be spread across multiple days).
  • Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus statutory bank holidays FTE (pro rata based on hours agreed).
