In the construction industry, finding motivated individuals who are eager to learnand grow is key to building a strong and reliable workforce.

That’s why we are proud to have worked with Tilbury Douglas, to have support JM, a NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and LTUE (Long-Term Unemployed) individual, into sustainable employment on their All Saints School project in Rawtenstall.

The aim was to provide a local opportunity for someone facing barriers to work, giving them a real chance to start their career in construction. Working together, we held two interview workshops atthe DWP Job Centre Plus in Rawtenstall. Out of the 12 CVs reviewed, 8 candidates were invited to interview — 3 of whom stood out as particularly work-ready.

These three candidates were then interviewed by Project Manager KevinO’Halloran, who selected JM for the entry-level labourer position. Prior to his employment, JM had been seeking work for over six months, even volunteering to gain experience and improve hischances. Four weeks into his new role, JM has integrated well within the Tilbury Douglas team and continues to show enthusiasm and commitment.

Goals

  • Provide JM with hands-on experience in construction
  • Support his transition into the workforce despite being NEET /LTUE
  • Assess his work ethic, reliability ,and ability to work in a team
  • Offer a structured environment that encourages long-term employment

Challenges

  • Ensuring a smooth integration into the team given JM’s limited site experience
  • Managing expectations around his reliability and work ethic
  • Supporting his learning curve in various labouring tasks
  • Providing motivation and guidance without making him feel self-conscious

“I couldn’t ask for anything more — he’s turned up on time every day, is polite, works hard, andall is going well.”
