Opening Doors into Construction at Tech Fest

Last week we attended the annual Tech Fest at Hopwood Hall College on behalf of Willmott Dixon, engaging with construction-based learners throughout the day.

The event provided students with a full day off timetable to attend industry talks and connect with employers through a careers fair-style set-up. We spoke with students from a range of construction courses, discussing the roles available within the industry from site-based opportunities to professional and technical pathways.

We had conversations which were valuable in helping to raise awareness of employer expectations, the importance of transferable skills, and the different routes available into construction. Events like Tech Fest play an important role in bridging the gap between education and industry. They offer early engagement, managing expectations, and support learners to better understand where they might fit within the sector.
